Paul Duffy was born in Athlone. After graduating from the Engineering School in Galway University he worked in a variety of locations in Ireland before settling in Galway in 1975. His work for Galway County Council took him to, virtually, every part of the county enabling him to learn about its people and places. He has given lectures to a wide variety of heritage groups around Ireland and has, also, contributed to a number of radio and television documentaries particularly in relation to Ireland’s Engineering heritage. He has published articles in a wide variety of journals and newspapers, including the North Munster Antiquarian Journal, the Journal of the Galway Archaeological Society, History Ireland, Galway’s Heritage, Inland Waterways News, and The Connacht Tribune newspaper, and has written specialist chapters for a number of books
