Sean Finbar Gallagher (16.11.1931 - 17.04.2011) was born in Dublin. He received his formal education at Ballymore-Eustace National School, county Kildare, Rockwell College, county Tipperary, University college Dublin, and at the University of Western Ontario. He was professor of English Literature at Trent University, Peterborough, Ontario (1983-1988) and was president of the Canadian Association of Irish Studies (CAIS). He edited Woman in Irish Legend, Life and Literature (1983).
