Tony Coote

Anthony Coote (16.061964 - 28.08.2019) was parish priest for Mount Merrion and Kilmacud parish in county Dublin. In early 2018 he was diagnosed with neurone disease. Five months after receiving the diagnosis and confined to a wheelchair, he took part in a fundraising walk from Letterkenny in Donegal to Ballydehob in Cork, a distance of over 550 kilometres. By establishing an awareness campaign, he raised €700,000 by turning his final illness into achievement. He was awarded an honorary doctorate by UCD for outstanding service to the community.
